Interviewed by Gwendolyn Kiste

I recently completed an interview with Gwendolyn Kiste, which has just been posted to Gwendolyn’s blog.

We talk a lot about the new novel Hieroglyphs of Blood and Bone, about my collection The Lure of Devouring Light, and various other things past and present, such as the difference in my approach, writing short stories versus novels. Here’s the link:

Devoured by the Light: Interview with Michael Griffin

I’d like to thank Gwendolyn for the opportunity, and the great questions!

Aaron J Besson Reviews Hieroglyphs

Now that Hieroglyphs of Blood and Bone has been out for a couple weeks, the reviews are starting to come in, the latest by Aaron J Besson on his review blog Hex Libris. Here’s a pull quote:

“Griffin does a magnificent job of a crafting a story where the reader has little choice but to join in the unsureness (he almost does away with an ongoing sense of time altogether)… Even at the end there is much unanswered, but it cannot be said that the questions asked are not beautiful, extraordinary, and weird.”
-Aaron Besson, Hex Libris

My thanks to Aaron for the great coverage!

Hieroglyphs Real-Time Review by Des Lewis

The excellent Des Lewis is undertaking one of his “real-time reviews” of HIEROGLYPHS OF BLOOD AND BONE.

LINK:

Hieroglyphs of Blood and Bone – Michael Griffin

In these real-time reviews, he offers comments along the way, throughout his reading of a book or story, rather than reading the whole thing then summarizing his thoughts at th end. It’s always interesting to see what Des thinks of a story! He’s just started on this one, so if you want to see his reactions to the latter parts of the book, it will be necessary to keep checking back at the above link.

Hieroglyphs Reviewed at This Is Horror

The first review of Hieroglyphs of Blood and Bone just appeared on This is Horror. You’ll have to follow the link to read the whole review, but here’s a pull quote:

“The relentless sense of foreboding which has built from the first page until the very last remains with the reader long after the book is closed.”

My thanks to reviewer Kev Harrison for the coverage!

Listen to Yesterday’s Lovecraft eZine Chat

Yesterday’s Lovecraft eZine Chat is now available in podcast audio format, for those of you who missed the live video stream.

http://lovecraftezine.libsyn.com/the-latest-weird-fiction-books-and-other-topics

Mostly we talked about recent fiction, and a bit about upcoming books, including writers and editors such as Justin Steele, Sam Cowan, Philip Fracassi, Jon Padgett, Mary SanGiovanni, Aaron J. French. We also spent a bit of time discussing my novel Hieroglyphs of Blood and Bone.

You can also click the link to yesterday’s post about the chat to view the archived YouTube video.

My fellow panelists included Rick Lai, Philip Fracassi, Peter Rawlik, Matthew Carpenter, Kelly Young and host Mike Davis. It was a fun chat, and I enjoyed the opportunity to talk books and writers, and even to mention my favorite recent TV discovery, The Expanse.

Ten Authors Recommended by Laird Barron

It’s great to see Laird Barron, certainly one of my favorite writers, recommending some recent books he considers worthy of attention. Even better to see myself listed among them!

Authors to Read (Part I)

Many of the writers I’ve see Laird recommend over the years have ended up becoming some of my own favorites. Though all the names on this latest list are known to me, there are a couple whose work I haven’t read, so I’ll have to remedy that. My thanks to Laird for the endorsement.

Nightscript 2 Real-Time Review by Des Lewis

Any observer of Weird/Horror Fiction over the past several years has probably see the Real-Time Reviews of Des Lewis, in which Des posts commentary along the way while reading a book. His insights are always interesting, and worth a look.

Des has just begun his real-time review of Nightscript II, starting off with the lead story, my own “The Carnival Arrives in Darkness.” The page for the Nightscript II review is HERE. You’ll need to scroll down to see what Des thinks of each story in the comments below.

I plan to check back, day by day, and see what he thinks of the rest of the book! For now, I thank Des for his remarks on my contribution.
