What’s Coming Up in 2016?

I just updated the STORIES page of this blog, and it struck me how much work I have coming out the rest of this year. So, if you don’t look at that page, what’s the current outlook for my upcoming work in 2016?

These are in approximately chronological order (though in some cases I’m not exactly sure when a book or magazine will actually appear):

THE LURE OF DEVOURING LIGHT (short fiction collection to be published by Word Horde)
~ FORTHCOMING: April 30, 2016 ~

“The Smoke Lodge” in Autumn Cthulhu, edited by Mike Davis
~ FORTHCOMING: 2016 ~

AN IDEAL RETREAT (chapbook novella to be published by Dim Shores)
~ FORTHCOMING: September 2016 ~

“The Carnival Arrives in Darkness” in Nightscript 2, edited by CM Muller
~ FORTHCOMING: October 2016 ~

“The Human Alchemy” in Eternal Frankenstein, edited by Ross E Lockhart
~ FORTHCOMING: October 2016 ~

“Meriwether” in Darker Companions: Celebrating 50 Years of Ramsey Campbell, edited by Scott David Aniolowski and Joseph S. Pulver Sr.
~ FORTHCOMING: Autumn 2016 ~

“Endure Within a Dying Frame” in Lovecraft eZine
~ FORTHCOMING: 2016 ~

“Miles and Kathrine at the Crimson” in Leaves of a Necronomicon, edited by Joseph S. Pulver Sr.
~ FORTHCOMING: 2016 ~

This represents a total of almost 160,000 words of fiction, and as it’s still possible other work will appear in 2016, this will obviously be my busiest publishing year by a wide margin.

“Meriwether” Will Appear in Ramsey Campbell Tribute

I’m very pleased to receive the news that my story “Meriwether” has been accepted by editors Scott David Aniolowski and Joe Pulver AKA Joseph S. Pulver Sr. for their Ramsey Campbell tribute anthology.

DARKER COMPANIONS: CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF RAMSEY CAMPBELL will be published in Autumn 2016 by PS Publishing. I’ve seen a few other writers like S.P. Miskowski, Gary McMahon, Damien Angelica Walters and Jeffrey Thomas mention they’ll be in the book too. The full Table of Contents should be available soon, and I assume we’ll see cover art before too long.

I’m very pleased to have a slot in this one! My thanks to Scott David Aniolowski and Joe Pulver.

An Ideal Retreat is Coming from Dim Shores

Since the beginning, I’ve been following Dim Shores, the excellent small press. Sam Cowan has been announcing and releasing one amazing illustrated limited chapbook after another.

This morning, Dim Shores announced the release of the expected September release of AN IDEAL RETREAT, written by me and with art by Mikio Murakami. Here is the full Dim Shores release announcement:

There are three new chapbook announcements coming this week. First up: “An Ideal Retreat,” written by Michael Griffin with art from Mikio Murakami!

Michael Griffin’s stories have appeared in magazines like Apex, Black Static, Lovecraft eZine and Strange Aeons , and such anthologies as the Shirley Jackson Award winner The Grimscribe’s Puppets, the Laird Barron tribute The Children of Old Leech, and Cthulhu Fhtagn! His standalone novella Far From Streets was published by Dunhams Manor Press, and his debut collection The Lure of Devouring Light will be published by Word Horde in April, 2016. His work is upcoming in Leaves of a Necronomicon, Autumn Cthulhu, Nightscript 2 and Eternal Frankenstein.

Michael blogs about books and writing at griffinwords.com. On Twitter, he generally posts as @mgsoundvisions and writing-specific news appears as @griffinwords. He’s also an electronic ambient musician and founder of Hypnos Recordings, an ambient music record label he operates with his wife in Portland, Oregon.

Mikio Murakami is a Japenese-Canadian graphic designer. He specializes in cover art, T-shirts, logos and drinking bad coffee. He founded SILENT Q DESIGN in Montreal in 2006 and has done work for a number of Canadian and international bands.

“An Ideal Retreat” is scheduled for publication in September.

There’s no art yet, and the story is not entirely finished. I don’t have exact word count but expect this will be on the lengthier side of Dim Shores releases. As more information becomes available, you’ll see announcements on Facebook by me, Sam and Mikio, as well as on the Dim Shores site and the Griffinwords blog.

I’m very pleased and excited to have a chance to be part of Dim Shores, to collaborate with the very talented Sam Cowan and Mikio Murakami.”

“The Human Alchemy” Will Appear in Eternal Frankenstein

My novelette “THE HUMAN ALCHEMY” has been accepted by editor Ross E. Lockhart to appear in his upcoming anthology ETERNAL FRANKENSTEIN, to be published by Word Horde. The story is set in a Gothic castle way up on Mt. Hood, Oregon. It’s one of my favorite pieces of my own writing, and I’m delighted it will appear in a book where lots of people will see it!

There’s no cover yet (at least not that I’ve seen) but lots of great writers posted on Facebook about being accepted for the book, so the table of contents promises to be wonderful and varied. Ross Lockhart always does a great job blending diverse and energetic work into an interesting whole. My thanks to Ross for letting me be part of this work, and congratulations to all the other writers. The book should appear in October, 2016.

Nightscript Volume II

Editor C.M. Muller has posted the contents of the second volume of Nightscripts

The table of contents starts off with my story “The Carnival Arrives in Darkness,” and continues with a great-looking assortment of writers. I’m very pleased to be connected with this, and October 2016 is the expected release date. My thanks to C.M. Muller, and congratulations on what I expect to be another winner.
